ANDREW P. HOPKO This is Mr. Hopko’s thirtieth year teaching in West Hartford Public Schools. He is currently orchestra director at Sedgwick Middle school where he leads three orchestra’s as well as the school’s select string ensemble, First String. Under Mr. Hopko’s leadership, Sedgwick orchestras have achieved Excellent and Superior ratings at festivals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. First String was selected to perform at the 2016 CMEA Convention in Hartford. Mr, Hopko is the director of West Hartford’s new chamber orchestra, Camerata. Prior to working at Sedgwick, Mr. Hopko taught orchestra at Charter Oak Elementary School, Bristow Middle School and Conard High School. While working at the elementary level, he conducted the district Inter-Elementary Orchestra for several years and more recently enjoyed conducting the MidFest Orchestra. . In addition to his responsibilities at Sedgwick, Mr. Hopko directed the string ensemble at Renbrook School for nine years. He has been on the faculty at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT for the past six years where he has directed the Symphony Orchestra, chamber music, taught Double Bass lessons and currently directs the String Orchestra. Mr. Hopko recently had the honor of conducting the 2016 Eastern Region Middle School Orchestra. Mr. Hopko holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music education from Western Connecticut State University. He resides in Farmington, CT with his wife Kara, two-year old twins, John and Julia and seven month-old Matthew.
